Writing a Speech

We need peace in our daily life with the people we live with, we work with and we study with. Therefore, it is necessary to know how to behave with the others to not create useless conflicts.
Write a speech to address the parents of your school in which you tell them about the importance of teaching their children how to behave peacefully at school.
Use the following terms to write your speech
tolerate difference. - respect each other. - keep polite and cool - learn to listen to each other - not impose our opinions on others - not be bully - respect school regulations - not insult others - not always agree with each other but accept differences - not to be violent and aggressive - settle disputes peacefully - be kind and helpful to others - know the rights and the duties . |
Ladies and gentlemen, let me make this point right away: even if I am just sixteen, I think that it is important to remind you about your role as parents to make peace in our school for the wellbeing of all of us, I mean children, parents, and the school staff as well.
Ladies and gentlemen,…
It is necessary to use expressions of:
- Obligation: must/ have to/ need to + stem
- Absence of obligation: don’t have to / needn’t + stem
- Prohibition: mustn’t + stem
- Advice: should / ought to + stem
- Reproach: should/ shouldn’t have + stem
Before writing your speech read the following instructions to guide you:
1) Before you begin writing you need:
- have an OUTLINE with your main ideas ranked in the order you're going to present them.
- You also need to know WHO you're speaking to, the PURPOSE of the speech and HOW long you're speaking for
In this activity
The PURPOSE: make peace at school
HOW long you're speaking for : a short time about 5 to 10 mn maximum
WHO: the parents
2) Your speech will have three parts:
- an opening or introduction ( it is provided)
- the body where you present your main ideas ( you have the necessary terms provided)
- an ending ( you have to thank the audience and focus on the purpose of your speech)
the introduction and ending should be much shorter than the body of the speech.
3) How to write the speech
- Write your main ideas out incorporating your examples and research
- Link them together in a smooth, logical progression
- Write your ending, summarizing your main ideas briefly and end with a call for action
Be sure to:
Tell them what you're going to tell them (Introduction)
Tell them (Body of your speech - the main ideas plus examples)
Tell them what you told them (The ending)
Here is a model of the outline of a speech :
Speech Outline
- Introduction:
- Opening greeting and attention getter
- defining your thesis statement (a summary of what your speech is about)
- establishing your credibility
- an overview and the benefit to the audience
- Body:
- transition or link between introduction and body
- main ideas with supporting ideas
- examples and details
- Conclusion:
- summary of main points
- closer or call to action
Here is a model of how your speech should look like:
Introduction :
Ladies and gentlemen, let me make this point right away: even if I am just sixteen, I think that it is important to remind you about your role as parents to make peace in our school for the wellbeing of all of us, I mean children, parents, and the school staff as well.
Body:
Ladies and gentlemen, I think the children in our school should have had a more peaceful attitude because we frequently meet some dispute that rise between students and sometimes even between student and teachers. Therefore, I think it is not only the school responsibility because you, parents, should have taught your children not only the importance of education but also peace. And the simplest way is to tell them that they have to respect each other. I strongly believe that if you tell them that they must respect the school regulations many of the problems will disappear and their results will be much better than what they are now.
Dear parents, in my opinion we can settle many of the difficult situations that happen in classes and in the court yards when you teach your children that they mustn’t insult their school mates and on the contrary they should be kind and helpful we them. Please, teach your children that they mustn’t be aggressive with the others and that they need to listen to them to avoid prejudices and misunderstandings that often lead to conflicts. Please, teach your children that they must have their rights and also that they have to fulfil their duties towards their school mates and their teachers.
Conclusion:
Thank you very much for your kind attention, ladies and gentlemen. Please ,
Be comprehensive with me, I think that I should have told you that to live in peace is a behaviour that the children ought to learn from the parents.
God bless you all!
