Adrian’s daily activities
Adrian is a high school student. He lives and studies in London. Every day, he wakes up at 6:30 a.m.
He usually goes to school on foot. He always finishes school at 2 p.m. In the afternoon, he often trains in his volley-ball club.
In the evening, he frequently spends two hours in private study. He rarely goes out in the evenin.
- 6:30 a.m: means 6:30 in the morning because the letters "a.m" stand for the Latin words "ante meridiem" in the meaning of "before midday/ noon/ twelve o'clock".
- 2 p.m: means 2 in the afternoon because the letters "p.m" stand for the Latin words "post meridiem" in the meaning of “after midday/12 o'clock/noon”.
- When we describe daily and weekly activities, we tend to use frequency adverbs to show how often we do the action. Pay attention to their meanings.
- Always = all times
- Generally / usually = most of the time
- Frequently / often= repeatedly(many times)
- Sometimes = now and then (from time to time)
- Rarely / seldom = not very often
- Never = not one time

The opposites

The position of frequency adverbs in a sentenceis between subject and verb.
- I often wake up at 7 a.m.
- He sometimes catches the bus.
The structure
Subject + adverb of frequency + verb + complement
However, we can start the sentence with « sometimes »
Sometimes, he goes hiking in the woods.
Exceptions:
Adverbs of frequency are always after the verb to be.
Subject + am/is/are + adverb of frequency + complement
