Talking about the weather
Observe how they are used in the following passage:
It’s rather rainy and a bit cold in winter.
It’s quite sunny and a bit cool in spring.
It is always sunny in summer, and it’s quite windy and rather cool in autumn.
Notice how these adjectives are formed:
Noun + suffix "y" = adjective
sun → sunny
rain → rainy
cloud → cloudy
snow → snowy

Spelling rules:
When adding a suffix to a word which is composed of consonant + vowel + consonant, we double the last consonant.

However, we cannot double the last consonant if it is composed of:
Consonant + vowel + vowel + consonant
rain → rainy
